Empowering Maldivian communities through sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions. Together, we’re building a healthier, more resilient future for our islands.
Watercare a Maldivian Social Enterprise founded in 2007 by Mr. Mohamed Rasheed (Bari) and registered (Reg. No.: T2007/54/20) at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The organization is active in implementing water awareness programs, assisting implementation of water and sanitation projects in the nation by empowering the community to participate effectively in its planning, development and monitoring Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects as well as undertaking research and promoting innovation in the water sector.
Watercare is currently leading civil society organization (CSO) coordinating CSO activities for establishment of SDG6 accountability mechanism in the Maldives. However, our efforts are constrained due to lack of space for CSO’s in the country.
By being a member of Sanitation & Water for All (SWA), Watercare can coordinate with local WASH stakeholders to increase general awareness on key issues, finalization, and implementation of CSO SDG6 strategic plan drafted in 2018. Further we can add value to the partnership by using the resources from SWA to develop and strengthen CSO accountability mechanisms to follow up on government commitments for SDG6 and SACOSAN.
Everyone in the Maldives has access to sustainable Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
Transform the livelihood of the marginalized people by significally contributing to the improvement of Water, Sanitation & Hygiene access as well as opportunities in the process.
These core principles guide everything we do and shape our approach to community development.
Every solution is designed with and for the communities we serve, ensuring sustainable impact.
We maintain the highest standards in all our water and sanitation projects.
Building long-term solutions that protect our environment and future generations.
Bari has been working in the Water and Sewerage industry for over 30 years. He has undertaken numerous designs, construction and consultancy in Water and Sewerage projects for cities, islands, resorts, small island communities, village water networks, and communal sewerage systems. Since 2018, he has been advocating for the implementations of SDG6: Clean water and sanitation for all. He has also been a Social Entrepreneurship researcher, promoting social entrepreneurship in the water sector in the Maldives.
