From 2000 to 2017, the proportion of the population using such services in the country rose by 26%, with more than 99% of the population having access to these.

Maldives is doing pretty well when it comes to acc Maldives is doing pretty well when it comes to accessing basic drinking water supplies
99% of the population has access to improved drinking water resources that require less than 30 minutes for collection.

For 97% of the population, these drinking water supplies were accessible on-premises
These supplies were available when needed to 75% of the population
48% of the population had access to piped water supplies, while 52% had access to non-piped supplies.

However, there is no data on whether these supplies are safely managed or free from contamination.

Assuring safe management of drinking water is a key aspect of SDG6, which our government aims to achieve by 2023 (Finance Ministers Meeting 2020).

Did you know that there is an international tool f Did you know that there is an international tool for monitoring progress in drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH)?

This tool is known as JMP, or the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene, and has been used since 1990!

Today, the JMP maintains an extensive global database, providing comparable estimates of progress across nations at various levels, including households, schools, and health care facilities. It also includes WASH data from the Maldives.
